THE BIRTH OF OCIANIC 2003 (cont.)Like so many times before, just as one door seemed like it was about to close, another opened. hope and support began to appear in the form of an Australian record producer living in LA by the name of Charles Fisher. A friend of the band had played some songs to Charles at a dinner party one night. Charles met with the band and expressed interest in working with them. He felt particularly strongly about one song, 'You'. Charles suggested that they still needed a few more songs and that without a drummer, they would struggle to make the record they wanted to make. In September, the development deal with Warner Bros. ended. Russ once again returned to Australia to save the band money. Still more determined than ever, they began to plan how survive and push forward. Ben and Aaron booked a show at The Joint in October. The two armed with 6 and 12 string acoustics played a mellow but courageous set of the newest songs to a small group of friends and supporters. By chance a drummer friend of Aaron's saw the show and called the next day to say how much he had loved the songs. Knowing that they could go no further without the help of a great drummer, Aaron called Svend and asked if he would be interested in doing some playing. Ben and Aaron had a show coming up in a week and really needed some help. It instantly clicked!! They rehearsed and with nothing to lose, decided to play that saturday night with just two acoustic guitars and drums. The show was a huge success and the band was delighted to see Charles in the audience. They ended the set with an extended version of 'You' and walked off stage feeling like a breakthrough had taken place that night. Charles loved what he had heard and wanted to start working on the material immediately. Russ returned to LA in december and the four rehearsed and played several shows together. Ocianic had finally found it's sound, and a new member. next |
